Marana, Arizona

The Marana Food Bank has exemplified the power of community collaboration with its recent fundraising drive. Under the banner “Stronger Together,” the newly organized food bank launched an initiative to acquire a refrigerated box truck, aimed at improving its ability to salvage food from local grocery stores and better serve the community.

In a remarkable display of public support, the food bank’s call to action resonated strongly with both individuals and organizations. The fundraising effort generated an impressive $44,000, fully covering the cost of the refrigerated truck. This vital addition to the food bank’s resources is scheduled for delivery on Friday, June 21, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to combat food insecurity in the area.

The success of this initiative highlights the strength of public-private partnerships in addressing community needs. A standout contribution came from the Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene, which donated a generous $7,000 towards the truck’s purchase. The church’s involvement extends beyond this single donation, as they have committed to supporting various future projects in partnership with the Marana Food Bank.

This collaborative effort between the food bank, local businesses, faith-based organizations, and individual community members demonstrates the positive impact that can be achieved when a community unites around a common cause. The new refrigerated truck will enable the Marana Food Bank to significantly expand its food salvage operations from local grocery stores, thereby increasing the quantity and quality of food available to those in need. Carlos Valles, Executive Director of the Marana Food Bank, said: “We are extremely grateful for the generous donation from OVCN. Our capacity to collect food was severely limited as we have a small vehicle. The purchase of a dedicated box truck will allow us to continue feeding our hungry friends and neighbors. Thank you, OVCN!”

Marana Mayor Ed Honea expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “I can tell you it was exciting to have Pastors Craig, Chris, and Shaun here from the Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene to donate money to the Marana Food Bank to help people of the Town of Marana.” Honea added, “It’s so exciting to see our local community rally together to support all of our community, especially those that are most vulnerable and in need.”

As the Marana Food Bank prepares to receive its new truck, the success of the “Stronger Together” campaign serves as an inspiring example of how community-driven initiatives can effect meaningful change and improve the lives of local residents.
