Pima County voters delivered a strong mandate Tuesday, approving RTA Next, the 20-year, $2.67 billion regional transportation plan, with approximately 61% voting in favor of Proposition 418 and nearly 59% supporting Proposition 419, the half-cent sales tax needed to fund it.

For the Town of Marana, the vote is a significant win. Among the top priorities in the new plan is completing the final phase of Tangerine Road, from Marana Tech Park Drive to Dove Mountain Boulevard — a long-awaited upgrade that will improve one of the town’s most critical east-west corridors. RTA Next also commits more than $85 million to help build three major Interstate 10 interchanges in the northwest Tucson region , improvements that directly affect Marana’s connectivity and growth potential.
RTA Next follows the original RTA plan approved by voters in 2006, continuing the same half-cent sales tax for an additional 20 years. The current plan is set to expire this summer. Because the existing tax is simply being extended rather than increased, sales tax rates across Pima County jurisdictions will remain unchanged.
The RTA estimates the plan will create approximately 48,000 additional jobs across the region over the next two decades, contributing an estimated $3.7 billion in economic benefits through improved corridor access and private sector investment — a projection that bodes well for Marana’s expanding commercial and tech park developments.
Marana holds a seat on the nine-member RTA Board alongside Tucson, Pima County, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, South Tucson, and the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui tribal nations. Town officials are expected to begin coordinating on project timelines as the new plan takes effect April 1, 2026.
