I-10 Expansion: New Lanes Opening Near Marana

Drivers in southern Arizona will soon see relief on a busy stretch of Interstate 10. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is set to open additional westbound lanes between Orange Grove and Ina roads by Tuesday morning, September 10, 2024.

This milestone is part of a larger undertaking to widen I-10 from three to four lanes in each direction between Ina and Ruthrauff roads. The project, which began in early 2023, has required significant detours, with traffic shifted to frontage roads during construction.

ADOT reports the overall project is now nearly two-thirds (2/3) complete. As westbound traffic moves onto the newly constructed lanes this week, it paves the way for more changes:

– In the coming months, eastbound I-10 traffic will transition from its current frontage road detour onto new lanes.

– The remaining westbound section under construction (Ruthrauff to Orange Grove) will also see a shift to new pavement.

– By year’s end, the Orange Grove Road interchange is slated to reopen.

While these developments signal significant progress, ADOT notes that work on the project will continue through 2025.

This expansion aims to tackle growing traffic demands and enhance safety along this critical corridor. Drivers should remain alert for changing traffic patterns and follow posted signage as construction progresses.
