TUCSON, AZ – Longtime Tucson resident Jesse Lugo has announced his candidacy for the City Council seat representing Ward 5, bringing decades of community service and local advocacy to his campaign.
Born and raised in Tucson in the mid-1950s, Lugo has built a reputation for civic involvement through his participation on numerous boards and commissions. He has notably represented Ward 5 in oversight roles for bond and sales tax revenue, ensuring the district receives appropriate funding for community projects.
Former Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez, who served from 1993 through 2020, offered her endorsement of Lugo’s candidacy.
“I have personally known Jesse for over 3 decades. We were both born in the Old Pueblo in the mid 1950’s and have watched Tucson and our surrounding communities grow to what it is today. Jesse has demonstrated his commitment to the City of Tucson by being a member of many boards and commissions for several decades. He has been appointed to represent City of Tucson Ward 5 on ‘following the money’ for Bond and sales taxes to make sure Ward 5 is receiving their share of money for various projects. In addition, he is widely known for the charity ‘Bike In A Box’ raising money to be able to give underprivileged children a new Bike for Christmas for several years. He supports many Veteran causes and various business causes. Jesse has demonstrated his commitment to the City of Tucson and when elected to be your City of Tucson Ward 5 councilmember will continue to be an advocate for his and your community,” said Rodriguez.
Lugo is perhaps best known locally for founding “Bike In A Box,” a charity initiative providing new bicycles to underprivileged children during the holiday season. His community work also extends to supporting veterans’ causes and local business development.
The Ward 5 election will be held later this year, with the winner representing residents in south and southwest Tucson.
