The Lopez Academy, a new all-boys Christian school, aims to teach students skills they will use their whole life, not mere subject knowledge.
The three skills The Lopez Academy teaches are reasoning, reading and rhetoric.
The most important thing that Lopez Academy is built on is daily reading. This type of reading involves reading a digital book while listening to the audiobook. This makes learning more engaging and helps improve comprehension and retention of knowledge.
Instead of having seven classes, The Lopez Academy doubles down on math and writing by having students study two hours a day instead of one.
“If a boy lacks in math, he’ll shy away from areas that offer the most promise for future jobs and prepare him for the AI revolution,” said David Lopez.
Writing is one of the best ways to learn critical thinking.
“They must learn to write, as writing is inseparable from thinking. A person who writes well, thinks best,” said Lopez.
The teaching style at The Lopez Academy focuses on online learning and uses AI tools to help students prepare for the future. If parents are curious to know what their son is being taught, they are more than welcome to observe the class.
The Lopez Academy tracks a student’s progress using portfolio work samples instead of homework and tests. This helps students and parents focus more on family activities on the weekend.
