Love to Read? Check out these Unique Offerings for our Book-Lover Community!

If you’re a book lover like me, your life goals may include having a library in your home one day. In this library there are so many towers of ink, you need a ladder (painted sparkly gold) to navigate your treasure. Your dream library may also include a fireplace to cozy up with a couple of cats and dogs. There may even be a window where your alpaca visits (depending on your fantasy) and a secret door allowing you to disappear into Narnia, Hogwarts, or Firefly Lane at a moment’s notice.

Reality check. This library does not exist in my home right now, but luckily, we live in a community with several unique places to enjoy a book during Love of Reading Month and the rest of the year!

Stacks Book Club: Click here for more info. Stacks Book Club is an independently owned bookstore and coffee bar in Oro Valley Marketplace. This local community gem is my go-to for cranking out creative work (laptops welcome), satisfying my craving for lavender lattes, and catching up with friends on the patio. BONUS: They also serve beer and wine, so you could literally enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the company of a good book, a play date (kiddos welcome), a date night (or all three) depending on your mood.

When you visit, make sure to check out the typewriter tucked away in the back of the shop and remember to type a message or quote.

Stacks is also home to:

  • Book Clubs
  • Book Discussion
  • Literary Open Mic Nights (there is one happening on March 12th!)
  • Storytimes
  • Community Events
  • And More!

Check it out! You’ll want to bring all your friends here.

Wheeler Taft Senior Library – Click here for more info. If you haven’t been to this library, put it on your Marana To Do List and take notes of all the things happening there! The building itself is a marvel with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide the greenest views of the park located behind it. The staff is so friendly, and the floorplan is easy to navigate, featuring the quintessential sections dedicated to children, teens, fiction, and nonfiction. Additionally, there are public computers, meeting rooms and plenty of space to spread out. In addition to story times, teen events, movies and book clubs the library also has plenty of unique offerings listed below!

The Wheeler Taft Senior Library is also home to:

Seed Library – Check out seeds (plants, flowers, fruit, etc.) and watch your home garden grow!

Read to a Dog Program – If you have young readers in your family, reading to a therapy dog is the most nurturing way your child can grow in confidence while reading! This location currently offers Read to a Dog on Wednesdays from 4 – 5 PM.

Writer-in-Residence – This (free) program is available to all budding writers (of any age, experience, or genre) interested in consulting with local authors who are there to help you hone your craft and give you advice.

Libby (FREE Audiobook downloads) – If your tote bag is full of books that you have zero time to sit and read, download the Libby app, which is free for all members of Pima County Libraries. Listen to books at your leisure! I love this app and enjoy binging on audiobooks during road trips, daily commutes, and cleaning/organizing!

Remember to add Tucson Festival of Books to your calendar! Click here for all the details.

Date: March 9th and 10th, 2024

Location: University of Arizona Mall

It’s Disneyland for all of us book nerds! This family-friendly event is two full days loaded with activities that include but are not limited to:

  • Hundreds of Community Booths
  • Meet and Greets with your favorite book characters
