Wet Weather to Impact Holiday Weekend Travel in Southern Arizona

by This Is Marana

An incoming storm system is poised to bring a thorough soaking to Marana, Arizona and surrounding areas just in time for one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. Areas of rain are likely especially Friday through Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Tucson is forecasting widespread precipitation across southeastern Arizona over the holiday period. Rainfall totals averaging between 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected around the Marana area from Friday to Saturday alone. This heavy rainfall in a short period will lead to ponding on roadways and areas of localized street flooding.

The wet conditions are likely to lead to travel delays throughout the region. Areas of low visibility and hydroplaning will be possible for the evening commute on Friday when we see bands of moderate rainfall developing.

In addition to the periods of rain, it will remain cool for this time of year with the cloud cover and precipitation. Highs over the weekend will only reach the low 60s, almost 10 degrees below normal.
